How does the two attempt Class 10 board exam system work?

Under the current CBSE scheme, Class 10 board exams are held twice in the same academic year. The first sitting in February is compulsory for every student. The second sitting in May is optional, meant for improving your score in up to three subjects or for compartment cases, and the better of your two scores is the one recorded. You cannot skip the first exam and appear only in the second. Please check the official CBSE circular for the current session's exact dates and rules.
